Jerisel Jimenez, LCSW

Psychotherapist—Professor

I’m a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City. I work with adults who are seeking greater connection, understanding, and ease in their inner and relational lives. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful and high-functioning, yet find themselves struggling with anxiety, relational patterns that feel hard to shift, lingering effects of past experiences, or a quiet sense that something isn’t quite settled.

My approach is psychoanalytic and relational. Therapy isn’t just about symptom relief, but about understanding how your inner world has been shaped and how old patterns continue to show up in present-day relationships. Together, we’ll look at both what’s happening on the surface and the deeper emotional layers beneath it, tending to immediate concerns with care and clarity while also listening for what a symptom may be expressing or protecting. I see symptoms as meaningful, often protective responses that once served an important purpose, even if they now feel limiting or painful.

In our work together, therapy becomes a place to slow down and make meaning. I aim to offer a steady, thoughtful, and human relationship where parts of you that may have learned to stay guarded, self-critical, or unseen can be approached with curiosity and compassion. Lasting change comes not only from relief, but from understanding and integrating what has been carried for a long time.

Across my work, my commitment is simple: to offer a space where you can be met with depth and care, make sense of what you carry, and move toward a life that feels more connected, authentic, and emotionally alive.

How I Work

The unconscious patterns that quietly shape thoughts, feelings, and relationships

How attachment, trauma, and relational dynamics show up in present-day choices

How awareness can create room for different emotional and relational responses

At the heart of my work is a psychoanalytic and relational approach, informed by trauma and attachment. I pay close attention to emotional experience, patterns in relationships, and the meaning behind symptoms, approaching each person with care for what has been learned, adapted, and protected over time

I work with people who feel stuck in familiar patterns, disconnected in relationships, or shaped by past experiences that continue to show up in the present, even when life appears stable on the outside. Together, we explore:

Symptoms tell a story. Therapy is the space where that story is met with curiosity and relationship so what has been held, protected, or unspoken can be understood.

Who I Work With

I work with individuals, couples, and family systems navigating:

  • Anxiety, depression, perfectionism, or feeling “stuck”

  • Recovery from trauma, shame, and identity loss

  • Family-of-origin issues and intergenerational emotional patterns

  • Professional burnout, creative blocks, and leadership stress

  • Communication, conflict, and disconnection

  • Self-esteem, boundaries, and sense of self

  • Relational patterns in intimate relationships

  • Identity development and self-understanding

  • Trauma-informed, EMDR-integrated care

For some, therapy begins in moments of overwhelm or distress. For others, it begins with curiosity—about relationships, recurring patterns, or parts of the self that feel stuck or unseen.

Here, therapy is a collaborative process of understanding, reflection, and emotional honesty, shaped within a real human relationship.
